If anyone has time to try out new UI we’re developing for FillSrf that would be great.
The idea is to have a short zoom meeting where you share your screen while you explore the new UI for the first time. The meeting will be recorded (only for internal use)
I’m currently in US Seattle time zone today and tomorrow morning.
Next week on Monday/Tuesday would work as well (back in EU time zone)
If you’re interested, pls respond in pm, and I can send you a build that uses this new UI, thanks!
The multiple functions button “Select constraints” is or was confusing to me.
In the beginning I didn’t have the idea that a mouseover over the button picture changes the button function.
It is an elegant button, but it’s not obvious how it works.
Separate buttons are more clear.
The switches like “Trim Ends” now introduce a 3rd flavor of checkboxes in Rhino.
Constraint test results, if failed, could be shown in the I,G0,G1,G2 labels.
In our session this was also caused by the prompt. That prompt has changed now as well, does that help?
I agree that that button isn’t very clear at the moment and needs reconsideration.
True, but the switch has a different ‘weight’ to it I find than a checkbox, and has become the standard for indicating if things are on or off. It could also help us differentiate things in other parts of the toolbars. For example, I’m thinking about making the Enable/Disable in Osnaps a switch so that it is easier to differentiate from the Osnaps themselves.
Yes, I agree, and we hope to be able to show this eventually in the viewport
Also agree on this one. On Mac it is a bit better. This is in fact due to a global issue I logged about the buttons in Rhino: RH-86765 Windows button style
The button mystery is still there:
The caption is “Select constraints”.
So I do that.
When I move the mouse over the picture, which is a checkmark now, it becomes a delete cross.
While the text still reads “Select constraints”.
Perhaps it would help to change the button caption to “Remove all constraints” on mouseover?
Running FillSrf first time should also bring the user to the selection phase (without needing for an additional click “Select constraints”), this would give a bit more consistency with the most of other Rhino commands.
FillSurf preview color should be different from selection color (yellow)
after changing the selection with “Select constraints” curve elements are still selected
after changing the selection with “Select constraints” the preview is not always shown
internal details works properly only if they are curves and set as “I” (Internal?)
it is not possible to use surface edges the same way, “I” as “internal”
it is not possible to use surface edges to give G1 or G2 information for an internal part of the resulting surface
moving an “I” internal curve while FillSrf is running and then doing Undo will create a double selection of that curve and make impossible removing them from the selection
I’ve not tested this with complex shapes but it seems already pretty good
Edit, about selection, for now I would totally UnselectAll at start, before “Select constraints” , and once that selection is completed, unselect every geometry used. See video.
If a user have a selection outside the screen, clicking “Select constraints” would add that geometry to the constraints.
Maybe it’s better to have “Select constraints” not accepting pre-selections? Not sure about this but currently it feels strange entering “Select constraints” with no selection and finishing/exiting with something selected…
