Lockheed FDL-5

In the 1970’s Lockheed and the Air Force worked on a number of hypersonic vehicle ideas. One of them was the FDL-5. I modeled one up for a friend of mine to help him expand his ANSYS skill set to include hypersonic vehicles. A nasty environment to analyze and to create geometry for.

The attached picture shows a full size FDL-5 mockup being assembled. It gave me a chance to play with Rhino 7 rendering commands. The people are from the renderpeople website. This took 78 minutes to render 1,500 cycles. I used the de-noise option which made a lot of difference in the final appearance.
