Issue: python 3.9 reaching end of life

Hi there,

My colleagues and I depend on a large python codebase for production. A pip package owner pointed me at the fact that python 3.9 is reaching EOL (Status of Python versions) and they will drop support.

Are there any plans of implementing a more modern version of cPython in Rhino8?

Thanks,
Tim

Not in Rhino 8 but yes for Rhino 9. Which package is that?

Hi @eirannejad,

Thanks for your response. Glad to hear that (all though I would have been even happier if it were implemented in RH8 of course  )

The package I was use is ifcopenshell. They have just committed a fix that prolongs 3.9 compatibility, so for now we are good

Cheers,
Tim

That’s quite disappointing given I have just upgraded to v8 so I can utilise Python 3. I didn’t realise that it was always going to be restricted to Python 3.9.

In Rhino v9, will you be looking at a mechanism to allow ongoing upgrades to the Python version, or will it always be stuck to a specific version? Thanks.

Shane.
