Handling large files over 4Gb

Hi All,
I design boats in Rhino. Not always, but very often I need to see almost all layers at once in a certain area when working.
It seems I am pushing the software to it’s limits making it work on files over 4Gb with 2900 layers. My PC is lagging even though it seems pretty decently built and still using all suggested optimization techniques:

  • AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
  • NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000
  • ASUS ROG STRIX X570-E GAMING
  • Kingston 64GB (2x32GB) 3000MHz/3200MHz DDR4 CL16
  • SSD m.2 x 2
  • be quiet! Dark Rock PRO 4

I was wondering If someone might have a tip on how to improve the workflow in Rhino? Would it be only by swapping or adding a new GPU with more VRAM? Would a PNY Quadro A4500 20GB GDDR6 save my day?

Much obliged for any help.

Hi Waclaw - the ‘built-in’ way to do this is to split the project up into multiple files in some logical way, then work on the project in a Worksession. This will allow you to a) only attach the files that you care about right now and/or b) use the LimitWorksession command to tremporarily purge all geometry outside of a sphere in the area you are working.
