We could have the same discussion over default tolerance settings or if CheckNewObjects is turned on by default.
There is no correct answer for every Rhino user. The defaults are more of a (one size doesn’t fit most), but they are the best compromises we can make given the feedback we get.
As you well know, we do not take a cavalier view of any of these defaults. We argue both sides over and over and try to find a setting that will work for the most number of users.
