FIRST LOOK: Pirouette for Nambé! [Licensed thanks to Rhino]

I recently announced that Nambé licensed one of our bowl designs, now called “Pirouette.” The original bowl has since expanded into a line of four sizes: mini, small, medium, and large.

Pirouette will launch worldwide in October 2026, beginning at the New York Tabletop Show. Our preliminary pitch name was “Airfoil,” but product names are often changed by the licensing partner.

In my class at Otis College of Art and Design, we focus on both design and presentation via 3D modeling, prototyping, and rendering. For the design’s first public showing, I thought I’d share the original pitch page that helped land the deal.

Our design collection now has 50 design concepts available for licensing.

Our pitch strategy includes:

  • At least two complementary views of the object—typically a low-angle view in one finish and a higher-angle view in another
  • At least one lifestyle or contextual scene
  • Familiar props that immediately communicate scale
  • A separate dimension page for technical information

We rarely present a design entirely by itself. Context helps people understand its scale, function, materials, and place in the world. This is critical for an object that no one has ever seen before!

One final behind-the-scenes detail: the kitchen background was generated with AI, giving us complete control over the setting. The bowl itself was modeled and rendered separately, using multiple layers for maximum control during compositing.

SPECIAL RHINO NOTES:

  • Made with Rhino 8 and sub-divisions, which changed my life
  • Rendered with V-Ray, including all 3D props
  • Background AI was ImageGen by ChatGPT
  • Thanks to @theoutside and @BrianJ for help / inspiration / knowledge
