FAB FEST International Fabrication Festival - July 2-9, London (UK)

FAB FEST International Fabrication Festival
July 2-9, 2017
University of Westminster
35 Marylebone Road, London NW1 5LS

FAB FEST International Fabrication Festival is a week-long celebration of design and making, hosted by fABE Fabrication Lab at the University of Westminster, culminating in a public event on the 8th and 9th of July. FAB FEST features over 50 pavilions designed and built by students from Westminster University, as well as national and international guest teams, under the guidance and mentoring of experts from academia and professional practice in the field of architecture and the built environment.

FAB FEST forms an international community of makers, where students from across the UK and around the world explore the potentials of digital fabrication under a specific theme. Last year FAB FEST welcomed over 800 visitors for its ‘Festival in the City’ theme where participants were invited to imagine and build their own Glastonbury-in-the-City.

This year, the FAB FEST is back even bigger, better, and more international. The theme for this year is Pop-up City and will give participants the chance to contribute and build their ideas for the cities of tomorrow. Teams are invited to try their hand at shaping the future of how we make, live, and celebrate life. This is an opportunity for participants to suggest and develop a glimpse of their unique designs for the future, and for us together to imagine and create our own transient Pop-up City.

FAB FEST will launch the first performance of A.R.T. (Architectural Robotics Theatre), and a workshop exploring building on Mars. A.R.T. is an action research project aimed at developing, analyzing, and improving the role of industrial robotic arms in the teaching and practice of architecture, through a series of experimental, design-led interventions, workshops and performances. A.R.T. investigates new ways of robotic fabrication using advanced materials (all work is done in Rhino, Grasshopper and HAL).
