Export Mesh as STL-File

Sounds odd, can you open this one?
test.stl (684 Bytes)

I used this def:
ExportToSTLV8.gh (9.8 KB)

No sorry I cannot open this *.stl

Wait. My and your file opens in Rhino 9 WIP but it crashes Rhino 8

In 8, are you opening thru the File pulldown > Open command?

For me this opens in 8. I am running 8.21 Windows? Windows for your setup?

Trying to determine how open or import might be different?

Yes open command.

Hardware looks fine.

How about this STL, used Regular Rhino Export Selected for this one:
test.stl (684 Bytes)

Import works with Rhino 8.

Open fails with other *.stl files too.

OK, so in your case import works, but Open does not. That is interesting.

What import options are you using?

The same as on your screenshot.

Here’s a crash dump:

RhinoCrashDump.3dm (16.1 KB)

My Rhino 8 also crashes when I’m trying to open a *.ply file

Hi @martinsiegrist,

I would rollback to 8.20 and if you want to test this install the latest v9 that will include it.
If is not in the current v9 will be on the one of Tuesday.

I’m not using Rhino 8 much, so no problem…

PS: This dujour build can’t open *.step either.

We need the .dmp file, not the .3dm file.

Thanks,

– Dale

Thank you guys this works now in Rhino 9 WIP.

I was wondering how the export scheme is chosen?

This will be included in v9.

The import and export components will have an additional input to specify all the options are on the dialogs that Rhino shows when you run it from UI.

May be a good idea implement the casting from string as a way to reference the local scheme name.

But if you want a .gh file do the same in all computers the user should be able to set this values independently on Grasshopper.
