Difference between shaded viewport and shaded button

Hello everyone,

I have a question that might sound a bit basic, but I’m having trouble understanding the distinction between these two buttons:

As far as I can tell, the “Shaded Viewport” button seems to set a specific view for the current viewport, while the “Shade” button is used to configure certain settings.

When I click on the “Shaded Viewport” button, the canvas displays the following result:

On the other hand, pressing the “Shade” button produces this outcome:

However, the command bar shows an incomplete command, prompting for further action:

When I press the enter button I got the initial result I got from the shaded viewport button.

Initially, I assumed that the settings configured with the “Shade” button would be applied to the shaded viewport, but it seems I may be mistaken. Can anyone shed some light on the difference?

Thanks!

Hi Borja -

I think you correctly pointed out the differences between the two. “Shade” is likely a left-over command from the earliest versions of Rhino where Wireframe was the only work mode and you had to temporarily shade a viewport to see it shaded.
