Hi i have just downloaded Rhino and just how the headline says, I am curious what is the best place for downloading completed 3D rhino models and files.
Im looking for a utility sink and I can see it easily findable for ketchup just not in a rhino file.
Hi Alex, is there a particular reason you want 3Dm files? The reason I ask is because other file formats open sometimes as well. —- Mark
This is a good question and the resources, or lack of, has been on my mind lately. I would have otherwise had an opportunity to do some Archviz stuff but I found that the time it would have taken to scour the various websites and pluck models one by one… or worse yet pay for models (it adds up quick!!) made me have to pass up a few opportunities. I think it’s a bit of a shame. These people hocking single models for like $10, 20, or even $5 need to get real and perhaps study economics. Asset packs are where it’s at.
Rhino-friendly models are actually quite rare. Why does this matter? You can’t be guaranteed that the textures/materials will apply appropriately with models created in other apps. Even if they do, applying the textures takes time. Not a lot, but x100…
One Rhino user recommended Turbo Squid. It’s a quite popular site. I’m browsing it as I write. They don’t have models specifically for Rhino. And some of the prices… these people need to f-off and quit cluttering these sites.
I currently have D5 Render on a month-to-month. TONS of models included in the pay version. I’m not sure how much is in the free version. Other render engines also have lots of models… Twin Motion (awesome platform but I really [like really really] struggled with texturing). Enscape comes with models if I recall and worked awesome, but was expensive (and has some issues with Rhino 8 but I can only assume that’s resolved by now).
We need asset packs. We don’t have time to sift through 800 pages of models, download one for $20, realize it’s a piece of ****, rinse and repeat. In spite of all of Rhino’s strengths it loses out in the Archviz realm because of the lack of resources. I’m tempted to upload some of my stuff just so other’s don’t have to model it. But also I don’t want to add to the **** pile.
Edit: Depending on the style of model you need there is sometimes stuff available. For example I know where to get minimalistic models for relatively cheap.
