The workshop proposes a new resilient bridge to reinstate this important infrastructure to help reinvigorate the local tourist economy.
Augmented reality technology and the fabrication of lightweight and efficient geometries built with bamboo will be used. The design and fabrication of these parametric structures will again be led by architects Prof. Kristof Crolla and Mr. Garvin Goepel, using analog and digital techniques.
The aim will combine bamboo construction and digital technologies based on digital design research to implement bending-active bamboo shell structures.
Students will work on physical prototypes of these low-tech building systems on location at the beach. The prototypes will be designed and developed in Rhinoceros, Grasshopper, Kangaroo, and Karamba, and they will be fabricated, aided by Fologram, holographic devices (Microsoft Holo Lenses), and handheld smartphones.
