In order to achieve good results, I always try to have control over the shapes; to do this, I use a plug-in that is rich in useful modeling aids, which I almost always do manually; these are not modeling tools that build objects or commands that delegate control of the shapes to the plug-in.
When setting the layout of gems, I help myself a lot with Grasshopper by using small scripts to then model everything in a “handcrafted” way.
