@Akash , it is VSCode doing all the code indexing. The Rhino codebase is large, doing code indexing on thousands and thousands of C++ and C# files, and having a folder with that much content open just is very taxing. If you want a relatively large code base you could check out Blender repository, make sure all submodules are initialized and checked out, then open the root directory of the Blender repository. Make sure that C/C++ and Python extensions are enabled for all the goodies (code completion, syntax coloring, etc), and let it just sit for a long while.
Also just having browsers with videos open for prolonged time does this. It happens for me with both Chrome and Firefox.
If I remember right the M2 was kinda of a dud when it comes to thermals. My M1 still performs very good and is barely audible, while rendering, compiling code or playing emulated AAA games. Normally it runs at around 35°C and under load around 50°C.
@diff-arch Maybe⦠[the dud thing] it was vey frustrtating how they [ Apple] almost immediately came up with the M3. [ I couldnāt wait, had a 10 years old computer that could not run the OS required for R8]
But I have the specked-up config [96ram and 38Core Gpu]. perhaps the heating issue is relevant to the base model no idea, but I relay have no heating issues.
That said, Iām not compiling code [wish I knew how to ] nor play video games.
But I do work regularly on heavy models - 5 - 15 gb in memory usage per file is normal .
@nathanletwory Thanks, and apology, but the blender thing feels too involved for me to try just to see if I can heat up the computer. What about a Rhino file / operationā¦? Iād be happy to test.
In terms of the MacStudio, I know that the Ultra model that I have has a superior heatsink compared to the Max model. It features a heavy copper cooling unit that has great thermal conductivity, better than the aluminium one from the Max. I donāt know about the laptops.
that is correct i am very unemployed recently and super bored, more time to plague the disco
but even if i do work hard the computer stays cool. when i do some renderings for a while the fans get audible, but i still consider that quiet since it has a pretty calm frequency compared to what i have experience with intel/equivalent based computers. all in all it really is the most silent little puter i ever had.
i think you wrote that you have a laptop? if so these sure have less air inside, maybe the fans are also more audible due to being a bit smaller in size and closer to the table/surface which might resonate in the harsher frequency spectrum even more.
the copper sink was one of the selling factors for me just to be sure to be on the silent side, i also had some spare cash at those times. but i initially hoped when Apple switched to Apple Silicon that they would release all the computers without fans altogether, which definitely was wishful thinking considering they they of course had to bump up the specs to get into the butter zone. the max with the aluminium sink was also reported to be rather inaudible either, if there is any difference at all within general activities then it must be really close to none. but i remember from the back of my head that you had both in your environment? someone close to you had the max and you the ultra?
Yes, my brother has the Mac Studio M1 Max and I have the M1 Ultra. He reported numerous times that his Studio is more loud. He doesnāt do 3D work or CAD, so itās hard to compare. Thereās a slightly audible whistling coil whining noise that his Studio produces.
