Just to confirm, I can enter a single Edu lab license key into the Zoo and it will distribute up to 30 licenses to users?
Also, if users are external - say on laptops - they should be able to vpn in to the network and get a license key, correct? I guess I need to know here not only if it works physically, but also if it’s not violating the spirit of an edu lab license.
In this case we have a good sized “lab” - actually a chair in the department with up to 30 staff and research students - and I’m wondering if I can propose this sort of solution to them as opposed to a pack of individual licenses in the Zoo.
@Helvetosaur re: the spirit of the lab license… while the concept of the lab license was initially intended for classroom use only, we do allow schools to use it for their research teams. As long as all the users are on campus and the lab license is being managed through The Zoo, the dean and his team of staff and assistants may use the lab license. Please note, the CD-Key should never be given to or shared with students.
We’re in the process of revamping our license agreement to make this more clear. We understand computer labs are going away, and that student-owned hardware is the future. Providing your students with educational licenses is our preferred route, but we also understand educational institutions wanting to provide students with access to Rhino via the school network/VPN.
