Write to rhp file or a license file?

One way I would like to provide demos for my plugin is by allowing a certain number of sessions. Is it possible to write to the RHP file for this purpose, or does this make it necessary to have a license file?

I’m sure you can write a plug-in that works in this manner. But there is nothing in RhinoCommon, nor the Zoo, which is going to help with this.
