WOLFGANG BUTTRESS STUDIO: JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented Architect / 3D designer to join a small studio. Working within a close-knit team the position will provide opportunities to participate in a range of creative projects that interlink architecture, science, landscape, music and art. This is a perfect opportunity for an ambitious and creative architect / engineer / designer to join an interdisciplinary team working on live projects of national and international significance.

Job title : Architect / 3D Designer (Part II or Part III Architect, Engineer or equivalent)

Terms : initial one-year contract with a three-month probation period
Salary : depending on experience (a UK Workplace Pension scheme is available after three months)

Hours : Monday – Friday 9am – 6pm (but may require extra commitment in busy periods and national and international travel away from the studio may be necessary)
Holiday s: 32 days a year including bank holidays. We have a 3-week summer shut down and 4 days off at Christmas (+ bank holidays) with one floating week.

Required skills and experience:

We are seeking an Architect / Designer to work with us in our Nottingham studio on drawings, CAD models and renderings of art projects. You will have expertise in Rhino and Grasshopper and the ability to interpret and express artistic concepts through CAD modelling. The flexibility to work with a wide range of professionals and fabricators is essential.

The Studio

We are a small and close team working in a large open, art, music and design studio that includes a workshop and recording studio in the centre of Nottingham, just a 2-minute walk from the train station.

Key responsibilities :

Prepare, develop and edit, under the guidance of the Project Leader, drawings, models, images and other documents relating to the design and where required, representations of design with options for further discussion by the design team.

Seek to understand and contribute technically to a design project by exchanging initial concept ideas and specifications through meetings and correspondence.

Work with the Project Leader on project planning in order to complete an artwork/project in an organised and structured fashion, including the instigation and implementation of team meetings and site visits.

Confidently take creative risks in order to develop representations of design options.

Help support key relationships with project partners, clients, collaborators etc., through attending meetings, giving or supporting presentations and through written and verbal communications.

Work collaboratively with other studio staff to achieve the project goals of the studio.

Daily tasks include :

3D modelling

Parametric design: Rhino, Grasshopper

Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop and renders

Project communication by email, phone and face-to-face

Project administration

Keep and file documentation for project reference

Undertake other duties as directed and required by the studio
