Hope all is well!
Are there any ways we could have start resolution activated in Rhino 8 as well?
It is a life saver for large projects and Rhino 8 is sluggish without it.
(RTX 4070 ti on a half resolution 4k monitor (or 2x fullHD if you like, it’s an ultrawide 35")
Cheers!
(And for everyone else who wonder how to activate this in Rhino 7, here it is:)
Cycles has changed and no longer has the concept of start resolution.
Since much had changed and I ran out of time Sharpness and Responsiveness (in Tools > Options > Rhino Render) no longer work in Rhino 8.0 - 8.4.
But with my work for Rhino 8.5 the Sharpness has been restored. Also viewports now have always resolution dividing in use. Raytraced will from Rhino 8.5 SRC onward automatically pick a lower resolution to start with based on some heuristics - it is automatic.
In upcoming 8.5:
The way to activate those in Rhino 7 is through the Tools > Options > Cycles settings, using the Sharpness and Responsiveness sections. Sharpness is the pixel size and responsiveness is the start resolution.
In Rhino 8 (8.5 and later) the responsiveness is now automatic but sharpness can still be set.
Nice, look forward to testing it out!
Edit: Nice touch with the sharpness and Responsiveness, I had not noticed those in v7 either as I knew about the startresolution trick Every day something new…
But hey, what is that outline selection mode? Is that some inhouse magic that we have wished for for so long, or is it a setting that I have yet to discover?
This. You somehow need to figure out those selections look like… silhouettes… then since you see those are like highlights maybe you guess SilhouetteHighlights.
But you know, I can’t tell for sure if that is how your thought train rides. So maybe it is inhouse magic. Who knows these days!?
Yup, magic. Everything you are testing out that isn’t available to us is magic
Thanks! If I can pitch in a wish then transparent shade the object too, it makes it easier to place it on other objects if we can visually see when it moves through another object.
There are some silhouette related settings, but I don’t know enough about what they do. My knowledge includes only how to toggle the silhouette highlighting. Not sure who write the code for this. I guess either @jeff or @stevebaer
