Hello!
In 2D, tracking lines are able to find an intersection point:
Would the same be possible in 3D?
Thanks a lot!

Bumping this thread up
Hello- my guess is this is theoretically possible but not practical at the speeds needed for OSnapping except in simple cases, just a guess.
I’ll ask.

That makes sense, of course.
Whereas, when utilizing tracking lines, the user (including me =) might be willing to wait a second until the ray intersection algorithm finishes and the other targets appear along the line.
Still better than having to do a manual helper construction with line/intersect/delete stuff.
Sketchup has an OnFace snap.
In Rhino, I tried to lock the direction by pressing tab and then _OnSurface but the direction lock is lost.
Extend to boundary is a quick workaround…
Bl**dy Sketchup… had to learn and use it more the last days. Slick little program… got some virtues.
But no. =)
Yeah, my only use for Sketchup is to verify the export of certain files for clients in the climbing wall business. Some of them actually feed their CAM software with Sketchup files since literally everyone can model something in Sketchup (which explains why a lot of climbing walls look like shit and consist way too many triangles).
I too
Can R8 include a new osnap setting ?
I’ll try to be as concise as possible: “
I (we) would like a real snap to surface”
The “onSrf” is not designed for that purpose.
This osnap is crucially missing would improve drastically workflows.
I’ve illustrated my comments in a short screen recording .
A new Osnap option : Snap to curve or Brep edge / surface intersection that will work with the Gumball (Snap to surface when moving copying extruding rotating)
The only actual solution is to use prior _Line _Circle + _Intersect + deleting the intersect curve
Those tow “missing” osnaps are part of SU success.
They would improve greatly workflow.
Many thanks
no reply from McNeel for this option to be implemented ?
Hi Karim - only that we know about the request and are discussing it, nothing more definitive than that.
