WISH : Highlight selected sub-block(s) in block edit popup

A loooong standing wish.
A seamingly very easy feature to implement.
In the block manager, highlight any sub-block(s) that is(are) selected in the graphic space.

This is “pulling-your-hair-out” level overdue.

Thank you.

Am I alone on that one ?

Also, another long time wish, is some kind of tree display to bunch up identical blocks.

As it is today, if you have, say, 150 screw sub-blocks, you will have each of these individual sub-blocks listed in there, which is silly for 2 reasons :
-One, it makes a ridiculously long list
-Second, it doesn’t immediately tell you how many of each sub-blocks you have in the main block.

Hi @osuire,

Yeah this would be useful, for sure.

Hi Olivier -

That’s an old wish as well, yes.

I expressed this exact wish ages ago, but that’s not EXACTLY what I meant here.
It’s about multiple occurences that should be bunched into one expandable item with, say, a little dot indicating the quantity.

As per the highlighting :
-Selecting a sub-block in the viewport should highlight it in the BlockEdit popup list
-Hovering over a sub-block in the BlockEdit popup list should highlight it in the viewport

Anyone heavily relying on nested blocks for their workflow should relate.

Hi Olivier -

There’s some confusion here. Your title of this thread states “block manager”. As a consequence, Dale had put RH-84545 [Highlight selected sub-block(s) in block manager] in the BlockManager subsystem. Lars changed the title to “Highlight selected sub-block(s) in block edit dialog” and the subsystem to BlockEdit.

I had read your “some kind of tree display to bunch up identical blocks” comment in light of the “block manager” title of the thread. The Block Manager has a line with the quantity.

Yep.
It’s about the block edit popup, which is also in a sense a block manager.
I edited the title.

It’s funny to see that lots of efforts have been put in the block manager, and the block edit is still so lame.
