I working on a watch model and the metal bracelet needs a brush effect on some specific surfaces. Per subselection I can assign a brush material to the needed surfaces, but no extra planar mapping. It would be nice if material and mapping could be assigned per sub surface.

You can add multiple mapping channels under Texture Mapping, so that you can assign a specific material to a subsurface and have that material use a specific mapping. Here it’s just two simple box mappings, but the second is rotated 45° (and the material is blue to make the difference obvious!).
