Something I have not worked out how to do yet, that seems like it should work. I have many different linked blocks that all look very similar. So I go to the block Manager, select the block I want and press the Select button. It selects all the instances of it.

Then to edit the block I have to first close the BlockManager and enter BlockEdit. But then it deselects all the blocks (which are all instances of the same block) and asks me to select a block, which is not so easy.

Is there a way to edit a block from the Block Manager? Shouldn’t there be an Edit button either in the Block Manager or the Block Properties window!?

Also as long as I have selected instances of the same block, shouldn’t BlockEdit see that I have already selected basically only one block instead of deselecting everything?

Thanks for considering.

Hello- currently there is no way to do that I’m afraid, and I do not see that capability in the V8 block manager either… V8 lets you edit the properties of block objects but I do not see that you can edit the geometry directly without entering BlockEdit in the usual way.
[RH-74750](https://mcneel.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issue/RH-74750) BlockManager: Enter BlockEdit directly

I’ve had a [similar idea](https://discourse.mcneel.com/t/some-block-definitions-panel-feedback/154695) recently.
Thing is, this block manager shows block definitions, not their scene instances.
@wim argued that the problem is - which block **instance** should be opened in the viewport when you edit a **definition**?
How about this:
1 - Enter block edit mode simply for the first instance of that definition.
2 - or the next best.
3 - or, best option, add a block edit mode like in AutoCAD, where nothing else is visible (not even gray) but the block itself, with the block origin at scene origin.

essentially v8 brings nothing to blocks. blockmanager is just a rewrite of same functionality ☹
