Hi @martinsiegrist - The new option to have the AutoCplane be independant of camera orientation RH-81260 has been added to 8.7. It seems to be working well! This build should be available in a few weeks, so this is just a heads up. You’ll find the setting in Options / Advanced: Rhino.Options.ModelAid.OrientAutoCPlaneToView.
