currently the wirecut command create issues that i described in the video
here i proposed a solution as subcommand “ScaleWire” under wirecut which can be also be called as “ExtendWire”. this will atleast solve the issue with straight-line cut and can be fully implemented when the user select subcommand “line” after wirecut but for curve wire it can create issue.
This is my take on the issue and now it is upto you (community & developer).
I get what you are saying…
or… hear me out… you could simply draw a longer line, or scale an existing line with gumball ?
In v8, you can relocate gumball with a simple double click. This would allow you to drop it in the center of your curve and simply scale it larger.
For me, I have scale1d assigned to an alias and use it all the time for situations like this.
The Programmers constantly hammer me when I’m going down a rabbit hole like this asking for new features.
They always flip the script and ask “what problem are you trying to solve?” whereas being a designer, I’m always offering them solutions.
Their question is most often the correct one as it opens the door for many possible solutions, that very often lead to solutions I was not thinking of when I simply skipped to the end.
So lets reframe your original post,
What problem are you trying to solve? I think I know what it is, but I’d love to hear it from you so I don’t miss anything. Once we have a problem statement, I can write it up in a way that the developers can start offering solutions.
I’m hearing the problem is “wirecut fails to cut all the way thru a part when the cutting line lies on the object, but does not extend thru the object”
please rewrite, correct or add anything to the above-
actually i agree and i do this as well. but for smooth workflow it can be considered, As once it get implemented it will save small time of every rhino worker in the future and make wirecut a smooth operation. i proposed this because i see rhino has some commands which are combination of other commands but as the user repeat them so rhino create it in a single command. take wirecut as an example- if we do noramlly we have to first extrude the curve and then extrude the surface again to make it solid and then perform boolean difference. but wirecut looks starightforward when we work.
This is just a suggestion for developer.
you guyz saying right and i am aware of those tools as well But If you closely see the video you will see that it is also showing the cut line on the solid as i am scaling the wire that give me idea about location of the cut.
i suggested this to have some advancement in wirecut tool for Rhino 8 but now i am ending the discussion because it is discussed enough to consider it or not.
It’s nice thanks for showing the feature, I missed it when it was introduced.
For a moment though, I was in the hope that it is possible to stop mid cut and change direction …
