Trying out WIP 8 today. Immediately noticed that the antialiasing is not working very well. R7 is much sharper looking with settings at 8x. Changing between 2x, 4x and 8x antialiasing settings in WIP 8 seems to have no effect, but it gets worse when you change it to ‘none’. Anyone else report or experience this? To be honest it looks so bad I am going to switch back to R7 for now

I’m not seeing much of a difference here.

Not sure if this would have anything to do with it, but I would suggest you make sure you have the latest graphics drivers.

Yeah I am getting much more jagged edges in WIP 8. Edge clarity seems to be very dynamic too…when I am orbiting around my model the edge sharpness changes very drastically depending on viewing angle etc.

Hi Brady,

Do you have your labels mixed up? That top image looks a lot smoother than the bottom, but you have the top labelled as WIP 8. I’m guessing the bottom one is really from the WIP.

First of all run the systeminfo tool on both rhino and upload them here.

My first guess is that wip8 is using the embedded Intel video device instead of your dedicated card.

Hi Brady -
If I’m not mistaken, that’s on the list:

> Hi Rob, This is a know bug that we have on our list at [https://mcneel.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issue/RH-66088/Curve-is-gappy-in-V8](https://mcneel.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issue/RH-66088/Curve-is-gappy-in-V8) Curve drawing got a lot more complicated in Rhino 8 and appears to be failing on some nVidia drivers. I typically do all of my graphics development on Intel since traditionally if I could get things to work there they worked just fine on nVidia and AMD. I’m getting an nVidia based development machine set up to try and track this one down.

Seems like a similar problem yes. Any comment on why changing the antialiasing settings has no visible effect (ie, x2 looks the same as x8)?

I have this same problem using a 3060ti… So probably related to NVIDIA drivers?
By turning on FXAA in the nvidia control panel I was able to get some AA back, but It’s not as good as Rhino 6 or 7.

I’m also having anti-aliasing issues with the R8 release version. Doesn’t seem to be working at all and changing OpenGL setting does nothing.

Also same results on my laptop. The curve is also jagged for some reason.

Since starting this thread, my anti aliasing issues have remained persistent to this day. Display quality is still visibly worse than R7 ever was. I am used to it now so not so big a deal but it would be nice to be able to crisp up the visuals

Hello,
We are encountering the same issue with anti aliasing with the R8 version.
See below the screenshots with different settings:

 ![r7 4x](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/mcneel/uploads/default/original/4X/0/e/b/0ebc975e800299e5c071a8a4e7dee2208f402d2c.jpeg)

The result is much better with the R7 version.
It is very uncomfortable to work with R8, especially with 1 px thick lines.

Does anyone know if McNeel is working on this issue for a next release ?

Thanks,

Somebody wrote on this forum that AA looked the best in Rhino 5. Because I also noticed AA quality degradation between RH 7 and RH 8, out of curiosity I installed Rhino 5 to compare the results. Rhino 5 is a clear winner IMO. It’s hard to give up on this after seeing how smooth lines can be - there is something about them. It’s especially apparent during highlighted object selection.

In all cases, I have 8x AA.
