Windows Data Execution Prevention

I have to take Rhino 5 on a presentation and have fired up my old laptop. The old R5 WIP and 90 day eval had long since timed out so I popped in my v5 disc and did the whole uninstall/install thing and then validated with McNeel.

This laptop came with Vista and has always been slow and nearly unusable but now when I try and start Rhino5 I get a message saying that ‘Windows Data Execution’ is preventing Rhino5 from starting. I went through the procedure that the little Windows help file to turn on WDE only for Windows essential programs and services. Didn’t really see a way to turn it totally off. Went through the restart as required for changing such settings and the Rhino splash screen appears saying that there is an update to install, so I let it do so and then when the actual Rhino workspace and windows appear I still get the same crash and crash report messages.

What to do?

Hi Jody- does Rhino start in Safe Mode on this machine? I guess I’d go through this:

http://wiki.mcneel.com/rhino/crashhelp

and see how that goes.
