Why is the gizmo in Rhino called a ‘Gumball’?

that is an excellent question, and i was wondering all the time why i can not find any information on this word other than chewing gums and gumball 3000 (whos name most likely derives from a gumball machine which was the price in the 70s)

so yeah, whats the story behind Rhinos Gumball?
