What does ExtendDynamic do that cannot be done with Extend?
same command, just has the options selected for you already, saves some clicks.
From my brief testing the most common number of clicks saved is 0 or 1. Maximum appears to be 2.
On the other hand the user has to pay attention to the differences in how ExtendDynamic works which can take time. compared to just always using Extend. For me at least the tradeoff is not worth the small amount of time saved by possibly 1 or 2 fewer clicks.
so…don’t use it? ![]()
I truly don’t intend to be smug or sarcastic- for some folks that click or two matters. If it doesn’t for you, simply stick with the regular extend command and set options as you prefer.
There is precedent elsewhere in Rhino for specialized versions of a command.. The extrude command and its various progeny come immediately to mind.
I completely understand that for some folks the number of clicks is paramount. I was just pointing out to anyone interested that if time is important then there may be more time spent in pursuit of minimizing number of clicks.
I have a very vague recollection that when ExtendDynamic was added in V6 the original intent was to also remove dynamic extending from Extend, but then that was not done. But in the end dyanmic extending was retained in Extend.
we tend to find that adding things doesn’t make many people mad…but removing stuff tends to make everyone mad
