Why does v8 union when v5 doesn’t

Hi,
what has been done to enable these items to now union ?
the two orange ones, and the the two blue ones.

I am in V5 (pending the visual disaster of clipping planes using a mess to fill the hole, setting up to avoid ever again)
and here we go again, unions fail, but works in v8

so what has been done to V8 ?

One reason to work in V8, once another hurdle is overcome, and another , and another.
BooleanUnion fails V5 and works V8 why.3dm (3.1 MB)

Is it ok to union then export as V5, or will that cause something to bite me in the bum in V5 ?

Cheers

Steve

Sure, you can export that back to V5 if you would like. Rhino does not hold onto the history, only the resulting Brep of the boolean.

As to what has been done? The Boolean and intersect code has 11 years of changes to it, in an attempt to make it work in more situations. Finding a definitive list of changes would be quite difficult going back that far.

Hi, ok.
That it works better is something to look fwd to. When I can solve the outstanding issues V8 presents.
Such as need to find time to get my head around just what settings to make to STOP a dogs breakfast of my obj jpg being stuffed into every clipping plane hole.

cruel.
