Still trying to learn. Imported a STEP of a handle and this showed up.
Obviously an invalid polysurface. Can it be fixed without recreating the surface there?
Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Hi Michael - DupBorder, Untrim and then Trim again if needed with the curve, or surrounding surface edges.

But my question was, why does this happen, not how to fix this.

Not trying to pretend to know but, could whoever made the step file have made it?
Pascal was replying to this part of your original post which I also took as a request for a fix.
