select circle, select radius dim, ortho is on,
yet it wont constrain straight up, hold shift, no better.
Applies to any ortho view, ortho constrains linear dimension or aligned but not radius or diameter 
How is this done ?

Hi Steve, have you tried to osnap to quad?
It’s not a real ortho direction but can give you the 90° point where you can place the dimension…

good idea, that is working for my circles, and to be vertical or horiz even an arc would have a suitably convenient quad !
Ortho though should constrain on these and doesn’t.

Another thing that should work with diameter / radius dimension is the TAB that constrain the direction from center to the cursor’s position…
