Been off the WIP for sometime, and it quite upsetting now, seeing this strange “regression” in the design of the Command search… It was so good and elegant before, the way @curtisw [if I remember correctly] did when transitioning to the unified code.
now it’s a strange mix of sharp boxes and near oval ones. It’s not only painful to the eyes. it’s also confusing since this was already done in a clear and UI harmonious way.
I understand [guess] the oval comes from the unfortunate MacOS design mess… But why use it inside the rhino UI where everything else is with sharp corners ?
Can you please allow an option to use the previous elegant and clear design ?
I can see how it is more efficient in screen space usage, and that is good in itself.
the issues I see are:
the ( ) and : are confusing [to me] What are these for?
the spacing [padding] is strange [see how the Center button is clipped in the corner .
the ultra rounded frame is in an unpleasant dissonance with the hard corners of the buttons… Now I can see the design logic of these “hard” buttons , the are the same design as the Filters and Snaps buttons.
I see that all the floating panels and dialogue have that large diameter rounding, and I guess it is coming from the MacOS…? but it is not in harmony with the rest of the UI [all sharp corners]. This is especially problematic in small frames [like the command options]
In the old design, all the inner buttons and frames are also rounded. In that, it keeps a unified harmonious feel. Perhaps it can be made smaller by dropping the Cancel Done buttons.
To summarize : heavy rounding and sharp corners do not sit well in the same design space.
Also a slight rounding of the Filters+Snaps buttons will help a lot for the overall design of the GUI! [all the tools buttons and tool tips has rounded corners ].
The rounding is Liquid Glass’ doing in macOS Tahoe.
We can see if we can add extra padding in this dialog.
