What determines this control point weight for a circle?

This is mostly out of curiosity, but I’ve wondered what determines these weight numbers for circles. Is there any easy explanation for how it’s calculated?

0.7071 is the sine of 45°

if the angle of an arc is a, then the weight is Cosine(a/2)
in your case
a = 90 Degree
w = cos(45) = 0.070..

That is not a circle. It’s a 90 degree arc or 1/4 of a circle.

For an arc span of a the weight of the center CV of a degree 2 arc will be cos (a/2) assuming the other 2 cvs have a weight of 1.
