Hello, I noticed, that the new UI behaves weird when the vertical toolbar has just two rows:
1/ Object snap has any unnecessary space in front of check boxes and behind the text. It’s a bit better in the selection filter bar. Most of the text would fit comfortably in the container if it weren’t for this useless free space (marked with the dashed line)
2/ Minimal size of the tab is too big. This causes the icon in the second tab to hit the edge of the container. It would look much better if the tabs were the same size and the icons were in the middle.
I know that these are not major problems and that they affect the functionality minimally, but please could you fix it. It just looks bad…
I agree with the overall assessment here: the overall behavior is weird at small scales.
What is interesting (to me) is that I think I might disagree with the proposed assessment in almost an inverted way:
The padding to the left of the OSnap labels is the macOS layout default (8) which is in line with basic Apple HIG guidelines and Interface Builder defaults (which, you might noticed, we are starting to violate all over the place - whether this is a good thing or not depends on your perpective; many existing Mac users are bothered by it). I’d actually say, if we were to adhere better to these guidelines, the Selection Filters panel needs more left padding.
Funny! On this too, I would say I’d rather the minimal size were two icons (plus padding) wide - or perhaps wider even - as the current default is for the Command textfield entry to be in this sidebar.
I think where we agree is that it’s all less-than-optimal right now as you can easily get it into a state where it looks quite weird and is functionally useless.
Thank you for your response. I understand that the deafult left padding is 8, but it seem to be only in the OSnap panel. At least in the filter panel, there is almost none. Wouldn’t it be possible to make the padding dynamic? If the panel is wide enough, it can be 8 (or more). However, if it is narrow, it would shrink as it is in the Filter panel?
Same for tab width. Now the tab width is fixed. Wouldn’t it be possible to change it according to the width of the panel? I tried to screen-capture some browser tabs as an example:
