Weaved structures

Hello!

I hope one of you clever people here might be able to help me out here!

I’m trying to create a sort of weaved pattern in grasshopper, based on the surface (I work in mm, and the surface could be archway or tunnel or very elaborate shape, at least 2m high and 4m long). The idea is to create the form out of rods. The main rods are 20mm dia, and they form the main structure, the thinner diagonal rods are 7mm and they form the diagonal pattern in between. The weaving could be any form, but all the rods needs to stem from the ground. Could someone suggest a good way to achieve that please? It’s absolutely frying my brain trying to figure this out and I’m sure it would take like 5 seconds in Grasshopper!

Pretty sure the correct term would be ‘woven’ and not ‘weaved’…

Applying a weave pattern along mesh edges

Good question. I’ve made an attempt with a per-face approach: [2022-09-02 21_51_22-Window] weave.gh (32.9 KB) Now I can tell that maybe many problems can be avoided/solved by using a per-edge logic. I would make a stripe/ribbon for each edge (thus covering also naked edges and triangular faces), and build a logic from there…
