Beautiful!! How was it rendered?

You didn’t want to say how?

i assume he still uses the same

it looks like he used a bit chromatic aberration, which keyshot is capable of doing. wished cylces for rhino would get some upgrades like these

Chromatic aberration is easy to add in post. It’s funny that real world camera lens makers are trying all they can to avoid it.

well it adds some work. i once got some refractive effects (which physically is actually the same) by rendering out different channels with different dof and composing them, but all that is so much effort and the rendered effects usually still look better.

indeed, i would not settle for less than that for some quality. the last company i worked at i had to organise some propper equipment, apochromatic lenses, or those which did not have the distinct titling but performed as such included.

but there is that nostalgia, the art of imperfection, and its all about these defects that add justification and value to renderings but also to photography with the very hyping vintage lenses the last couple of years.

KEYSHOT smiley:

this is such a critical and overlooked aspect of digital art. It’s so easy to make something perfect digitally, yet a little dirt, a few scratches or some expected wear on an object can add so much richness to an image.

and caustics, and instancing, and volumetric lighting and all the other good stuff cycles can do…

you probably meant can’t  cycles can do a bit caustics to some degree but its very heavy on the calculation, but what we have in Rhino does not even reflect that, i am not sure if it is implemented at all, i never got anything caustic like out of it. there are some approaches to include these but they are alternative builds how i understood it, and we might not see anything like it anytime soon. @nathanletwory can sure correct me

Completely depends really on the level you’re looking. Service Release Candidate time scale: not likely. Geological time scale: very soon.

you are going to have me breakdancing soon, unless you are talking about the before next ice age geological soon

This is wonderful! Great work.

Regarding the render, I will stick my neck out and suggest that Rhino 8 Cycles can probably get pretty close to this render with some fettling. The other bits can probably be post a little. I’d probably tone down the CA, but that is personal preference.

I think the problem comes when pulling out vibrancy from Cycles. It’s a proper bug bear that it kills energy a bit fast.
