Voice input

A few years ago I had fun with the idea of creating a command line voice input feature in Rhino using a few apps. I think it’s time to request this feature out of the box, for Rhino and Grasshopper. Do you think this would be useful for you?

I’m not sure how efficient that would be. Trying in windows right now. I say ‘line’ and I get ‘lined’. I believe it’s difficult to get exactly the right command… Also I’m listening to music almost all day so that won’t really work.

Only if you listen on speakers and not on headphones.

Generic software to add this to anything in Windows does exist if you want to test it out.

Voice recognition exists for a while, same as gestures and eye tracking… It’s hard to beat the efficiency of mice and keyboards…

@nathanletwory are you talking to your computer?

Good heavens, no! Imagine that in an office setting :scream:

Imagine cruising thru urban areas while having a remote access to computer, using specific glasses to display interface and giving voice commands via headset to place grasshopper components

I remembered this because now the gpt chat has developed very much. And I think this can greatly speed up the process of creating algorithms, and also based on its voice input, you can create a history or a tree of building elements in a rhinoceros so that later it would be easy to edit what has been modeled.

Can you imagine, I’m talking to my computer. Because I don’t know English well and I said this text in my language and you’re reading it in yours.

You don’t have to tell me, building my own keyboards

I… no comments.

But voice input is very useful for accessibility. I had a collegue at some point who suffered from wrist problems so severe that he was unable to type code - which is obviously a bit of a drawback being a programmer. He created a system where could write code through voice input.

I like your keyboards!

Funnily enough, I’ve been pondering on this feature for a couple of months.

I found myself inconvenienced by having to go between keyboard and mouse mostly when needing to toggle the buttons for view / snapping etc (what a first-world problem :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:).

I figure it wouldn’t be feasible to access every command (there are so many, and most not real words) but a subset could be useful – perhaps as shortcuts.

However, it’s possibly possible to do this using the existing OS features (I’m on Mac).

But yes, not great for an office environment. And yes, it would be cool. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
