VisualARQ windows walls and roofs bugging

Hi guys,

Im having some issues with the windows walls and roofs in visualARQ.

I keep getting issues with windows disappearing when i change things

Above I have a random cut out from the roof has appeared after I redrew the walls because all the windows had disappeared

Here i have a random chunk missing from the wall which i cant seem to fix.

So far all the “bugs” i thought have ran into with visualARQ have just been me drawing wrong and I wont be surprised if this is the same.

I really want to get on with visualARQ but am struggling at the moment (granted only a week into using it as a new work flow). Does anyone know of a good course to follow for visualarq 3? i have already followed the villa savoye one on youtube which was a great intro. Sadly there doesnt seem to be too much else up on youtube.

I would love to see more on other peoples workflows with visualarq

Hi @jake_courtenay Can you attach that .3dm file, so we can revise these issues with the gaps in the roof and wall?

Perhaps there’s a hidden object that is intersecting with these objects (the intersection happens regardless of the visibility status of VisualARQ objects)

Here is the file im currently working on. Im getting all sorts of strange bugs pop up with the walls windows and roofs, i changed the slab size of the roof earlier and it made a long rectangular hole appear in the wall.

I can see these issues are related to wall extensions.

In the first case, after updating the roof, the roof hole disappears, but a weird subtraction appears in the lower wall:

But I can see this wall is extended to the roof, so it is overlapping with the wall above, which is also extended.

If you unextend the lower wall, this problem will disappear.

In the second case, a similar problem happens. The two walls under the roof are extended to the roof, creating some intersection conflicts between them. Just unextend the bottom one, and the problem will also solve (you may need to adjust the height of it too).

I have had some slightly different results from you i think. So i selected the roof and ran the “vaUpdate” command but it didn’t fix the roof, instead the 2 windows on the rear wall of the first floor disappeared.

That second one worked perfectly though thank you, I will keep an eye on what walls i have extended to where.

Yes, you are right. Updating the roof make the two windows disappear. They are still there if you switch to the Wireframe display. But I believe the problem is the same as the other cases. The lower wall is also extended to the roof, intersecting with the upper one producing errors like this one.

Make sure none of the lower walls is extended to the roof.

Then select all objects in that building and run the vaUpdate command. If the windows don’t generate the opening yet, just try to move them across the wall a little bit, so they detect it properly.

So far I have been drawing the slab for the ground floor and adding the walls, then drawing the slab for the first floor and then extending the ground floor walls up to the slab (or down too as usually the slab height is below the default wall height). Granted it seems like i have done a bad job so far of extending to the actual slab vs the roof but does this sound like the correct way to do it or should i be manually setting the wall height rather then extending the wall to the slab?

I recommend you to do the less extensions of walls to other objects as possible, since this may generate more complex models and slower to compute. Take into account that you can also use the Levels Constraints to update the position of slabs and walls, or the height of walls, if you need to change a level elevation (you can see how this works here: https://youtu.be/tiFcS3u7-fI?si=ez38FgzBkonvmiUX)
