Viewport Camera

While modeling sometimes I’ve noticed the camera swings around wildly placing me far off from my work. I have Rotate View around Gumball checked so the camera rotates fine but sometimes when I nothing select the camera goes wild as I’m trying to rotate around my work. I do most of my work away from the world origin 0,0,0 due to how my job has their workflow currently setup, so I dont know if that is playing a roll in the camera going wild but i am open to suggestions to fix it.

As is there a setting for the camera to prevent it from clipping through objects when zooming in closely, I know in Autodesk’s Maya they’re settings for setting your cameras near and far clipping planes so you can zoom in real closely. I sometimes zoom in to inspect small details and or move around certain vertices and its annoying to reposition myself after the camera has clipped through the object.

Here is an exmalpe video of my camera rotating wildly.

This is tricky in any 3D software, especially if you work on different small details in a big model.

I have _ZS bound to my middle mouse button (mouse wheel click). This works really well and becomes second nature after a while. Then you just need to select what you’re working on once, press the middle mouse button and the camera will rotate around it and zoom properly. It allows you to jump around in a big drawing quite easily. I’d recommend you try it out.
