(mac only bug(?))
\_viewcaptureToFile
 → check Transparent Background
 → in the File Dialog choose . **jpg**
 → Rhino will save a . **png** instead

the old behaviour was to save a .jpg with white background - which was very nice i think. (this behaviour was not consistent with the PC-Version)

i think the choosen Format should be strict. (priority over transparent option)

if you want to keep this feature as is - i requeste a white background option - aditional to the transparent Background.

thanks. kind regards - tom

was this ever resolved? i just started using rhino on mac and when saving as a jpg (no transparent background options checked anywhere) it gives me a message about it needing to be a png for trans background and saves a png with white background…i want it to be a jpg like it used to be…

@pascal, `ViewCaptureToFile` on Mac still saves only PNG-format. Even when transparency is disabled.

When selecting JPG and `Transparency` off it says the followin gin the command line:

```auto
Command: ViewCaptureToFile
The Jpeg format does not support transparency. Set to Png format
```

and

[RH-42926](https://mcneel.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issue/RH-42926)

any update ?

## workaround

my workaround for white background - .jpgs:
set a custom display-mode: copy render mode, set General - Shade Setting - Color and Material to “Object’s color” (which is the Layer-Color in default settings.

 ![Screenshot 2024-01-28 at 22.38.11](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/mcneel/uploads/default/original/4X/3/a/0/3a02b570da6add90981d1c8a8b72341ee9a29d2e.png)
then viewcapture without transparency.

Same issue still, no way to create anything other than png with viewcapture. Really annoying as we use this a lot…

**NOT SOLVED** satisfyingly:

Version 8 (8.9.24163.15302, 2024-06-11)
mac os x 13.5.1 intel

## Transparent Info twice

the transparent option still appears twice.

Command-Dialog:
Checkbox - Transparent Background (png and tiff formats only)

Save As - Dialog
Checkbox - Transparent background for supported types

## new Bug

At the current Release Candidate - something is broken with the file type. Seams like it is ignored ? **I only get .png** even if i choose jpg and add the .jpg extension in the dialog.

## Expected:

- **only one** Checkbox in the first command - Dialog
- maybe the option should be named “No Background” - and the Behaviour is describted in the help ? transparent for png/tiff, white for others
- the information, that only png and tiff support transparency - if Rhino starts to have this basic IT knowledge / information everywhere the interface will get quite annoying for advanced users. There is a (?) Help link at the lower left - so people can use it.
- it should be possible to export a white/no Background jpg as described in the initial post. Maybe a quality-slider is a nice improvement.

thanks for looking at it again.

Oops. I should have mentioned “on Windows only.” We split the issue into platform-specific issues, one for Windows; one for Mac.

_[RH-82581](https://mcneel.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issue/RH-82581) ViewCaptureToFile: Transparent background forces png format_

is the one to watch on Mac.

Apologies for the confusion on my part.
