View mode - culled geometry by distance - soap bubble mode

Feature request:

When working in big projects with a lot of complex geometry distributed over great distances, it would be a super great help to be able to cull what is displayed (and what can be selected) by distance from an arbitrary point (or the zoom target).

In this mode only what one is working on would be visible (and selectable). It would be like working in a soap bubble (could even be called soap bubble mode). Everything outside the soap bubble would be hidden + non-selectable.

An optional feature would be that geometry outside the soap-bubble would be displayed in for example grey wireframe, while the rest is shaded (or whatever mode the user is using).

I’ve already asked for something similar relating to the geometry cut away by clipping planes. Making the cut-away geometry visible in a different mode, so that one understands what is going on while modifying things still visible (in the clipping), but reaching out of what is visible. Still waiting for that!

Thanks
