V5 vs V6 Mouse Navigation issue

Hello,

It seems like some of the mouse view navigation actions have been changed in V6 - specifically zoom-in with scroll wheel and Shift_RMB for view pan seem to be object-sensitive.
Now the speed of them depends on the object proximity, so once we get close to objects the view changes slow down, right? All is fine and seems like a nice concept but working on interior spaces or dense scenes with lots of objects and being “inside” of the model has become very annoying and claustrophobic experience - often, especially when accidentally moving the camera into objects it gets trapped in there and hard to get out with the zoom/pan mouse movements. Quite frustrating. Could the non-object sensitive behavior be an option please ?

Hi Jarek - does changing the setting in Options > View page > Autoadjust camera target after pan and zoom’ affect what you’re seeing?

Hi Pascal,

Yes it does. However over here they seem to be flip-flopped between V5 and V6 - in V5 I always have it unchecked for “normal” (non-claustrophobic) behavior where as in V6 it has to be checked to be the same way. Is this change on purpose or a bug? Not a big deal as long is it can be switched, but that’s where the problem came from… Thanks!

Hi Jarek - actually, to me, the checkbox appears not to have any effect in V5 at all… certainly not as clear as in V6, if I turn on the camera and watch it as I pan and zoom…

Hi Pascal - did you try being “inside” of a model for a test? That’s when it’s most obvious. Like a box with walls that have thickness… Definitely in V6 the effect is stronger but I get the difference in V5 checked vs unchecked too.

Hi Jarek - I made a big array of boxes and got the view in among them … I’ll try a room with wall thickness - I have mine unchecked in V5 as well so it may be that it was driving me nuts at some point as well.

I see. As long as it can be turned off it is fine, I guess I am then just reporting that the switch has a flipped effect in V6 vs. V5 : )

Yep, I got that… just trying to reproduce - weird that I cannot… the behavior is very obvious in V6 with the exact same scene.
