UV problem

I’m hoping someone can troubleshoot this UV problem for me
I have a deadline on Monday
I map the object and it looks fine until I click Apply and then the map disappears
I’m hoping I’m doing some thing stupid and obvious
I hit Apply and the map disappears

UV applied

Hello
I am not sure but it seems you can apply a Planar Mapping
image
Then make a Material with your image
Then using Show Mapping you can adapt the position of image on the object

Thanks
I might try that later but I want to know why something I’ve done many times before is suddenly not working. And I’ve got a lot of material to map this weekend.

Not sure if I’m looking right, but your object has a plaster material without a texture map applied. So once you get out of the uv editor you see again the plaster material.

You need to have a material assigned that contains the texture image you are mapping.

And go to Rendered mode to see the result.

This forum is the one place I hope I’m being stupid
Thanks Nathan

Got that solved and now I have to resolve this
I get the object mapped and it looks good in the UV editor

and then I hit Apply and … bonkers
I hit apply and -

I’m sorry to be disturbing your weekend
Your help is greatly appreciated

There is something with how the object was created. To get controllable mapping I would _Explode _Join. That keeps the mapping, but now it is good. Tested with Rhino 7.36

Thanks again
Exploding and joining did it (although I’ve no idea why)
You saved my butt

I don’t know exactly either why that worked, probably something @Jussi_Aaltonen would be able to tell more about.

Extrusion type objects often show issues with textures. I would just run _ConvertExtrusion to convert them to polysurface objects.

_CorvertExtrusion, even better than _Explode _Join

A post was split to a new topic: UV issue with edge softening and translation

Thanks Jussi and Nathan. Both of those solutions work and my client is happy.

Looks like this bug is already logged: RH-78677 Texture Mapping: cylindrical mapping applied wrong on cylinder
