I am writing about a recurring issue I am experiencing with the “User Text” component in Grasshopper within Rhino 8 (SR17250667001).
Problem Description:
I have observed that when user text keys and values are assigned to an object using the “User Text” component, these attributes are lost after any geometric transformations are performed on the object. This necessitates re-applying the user text attributes from a previous state to the transformed/modified object, which is highly inefficient and illogical in most workflows.
Furthermore, I have encountered a similar issue within clusters. When input geometry with user text attributes is processed within a cluster and then output, the user text attributes are lost from the output geometry. Even though the attributes appear to be correctly applied within the cluster, they disappear once the cluster is closed.
Observed Behavior:
- User text attributes are lost after any geometric transformations on an object.
- User text attributes are lost from the output geometry of a cluster, despite being present within the cluster (see above).
Expected Behavior: (Please let me know if I am wrong!)
- User text attributes should persist after geometric transformations.
- User text attributes should be retained on the output geometry of a cluster.
Recommendation:
I strongly recommend that the user text attributes assigned to an object should be preserved throughout geometric transformations and cluster operations. This would significantly improve workflow efficiency and prevent data loss.
