As an internal tool we have developed a plugin to manage user text key-values in a more efficient way, here are the core functionalities:
Instead of clicking through endless properties panels, UserText DB gives you:
The Live Data Grid: A seamless, Excel-style interface to view and edit your entire model’s metadata instantly.
Bi-Directional Sync: Select objects in Rhino and they highlight in the grid. Select rows in the grid and they highlight in Rhino.
Smart Batching & Dropdowns: Auto-populating dropdown menus eliminate typos, while the batch editor lets you update hundreds of objects in a single click.
3D Audit Mode: Instantly color-code your live Rhino viewport based on any metadata column to visually QA your model.
Excel Interoperability: Export your model data to CSV, edit it with your team, and inject it straight back into your 3D geometry.
We are launching this to help bridge the gap between pure geometry and heavy BIM. We are beta testing it now, in case anyone is interested: UserText DB is now available to install directly via the Rhino 8 Package Manager (search “UserTextDatabase”)!
