Using a downloaded model table I place the different elements on different layers according to material choice. But the objects do not take on the material layer as desired. The object keeps original material definition.
In your first screenshot select the Use Layer Material entry. Then change the material on the layer in the layer panel (second screenshot, lower-half in the Layers panel).
