I want to create a self-supporting arch (vault) fabric/textile structure. The idea is to sew the fabric and fill it with agricultural waste and mycelium. Stitches form a pattern on the textile structure, and there is a hole in the middle, as shown in the attached images.
First things first. Turn the computer off and break out the pad and pen.
Sketch a concept.
Then show that to whoever is going to be making the item. Once you have worked out how an unsupported non-tensile arch will stand up (good luck with that) then you can think of modelling it.
Remember, Rhino and grasshopper are design tools - they don’t magically make the unmakeable into a real item.
