Looking at this tower here, I’m wondering if anyone can give me a ballpark vote of confidence that this will be a significant step up from my 2011 MacBook Pro (2.2 GHz i7, 1GB AMD) when running Rhino WIN. (Yes, I have another license for Windows in addition to my OSX key).
Here’s the PC tower in question: AMD FX-6300 Six Core 3.5GHz, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 1TB HDD, 24X DVD, AMD R7 250 2GB https://smile.amazon.com/CyberpowerPC-Gamer-GUA3400A-Gaming-Desktop/dp/B0111MU5ZA/ref=lp_3023694011_1_2?srs=3023694011&ie=UTF8&qid=1467681217&sr=8-2
I would not be looking at any system using AMD for graphics cards. The forums are chock full of advice/info/recommendations with regards incompatibility etc. ALWAYS GO NVIDIA!!
My two cents.
Rupert.
I would look at cloud computing https://paperspace.com has rhino working effortlessly.

Keith,
This looks interesting. Are you a subscriber to this service? I just checked and they are currently maxed out but the concept is very interesting. Unfortunately there is not a huge amount of information available on the site.
Can you offer anymore insight?
Cheers,
Rupert.
Thanks on the AMD warnings everyone - it does sound like they are troublesome.
Keith, tell me more about Paperspace – looks like it’s in closed beta but you say it works just fine? Which package are you signed up for, and how does it work exactly? Do you personally have to validate your license for Rhino, or does Paperspace provide a suite of design software including Rhino that you can simply access wherever whenever? I also use Modo extensively, I wonder if Paperspace allows for that as well.
I am on the cheapest hourly rate, and had to validate my Rhino license on the virtual machine. Apart from Chrome there are no other programs loaded.
I am based in the UK and am using their East Coast Server - Windows 7.
I also loaded my own Jewelry plug-in without any issue to the virtual machine - www.cadwax.com
Let me know of any testing you require and I will see what I can do. ( heavy files etc / render engines )
Replied to this thread on the virtual desktop using Chrome,
Keith
