Updates and freezing

Hi. I am running Rhino 4 which has been working perfectly on my laptop. Unfortunately my laptop crashed which meant I had to reload the rhino4 program onto my new computer. Unfortunately, I cannot find any updates required for this program.
The program is hanging big time so cant do the most simple of tasks. Ive been through the settings but fear I may have overlooked something?
The laptop is a decent one rigged for gaming with a proper graphics card and good RAM - miles better than my earlier laptop. Any suggestions? (besides upgrading to a new version)

TIA

Hi Rod,

are you using Windows 11 perchance?

Someone has already reported the similar problem:

And the answer is - you need to downgrade to Windows 10 to keep using Rhino 4

If you are sitting with Windows 10 - your graphic card driver might give you problems.

It is best if you run a systeminfo command and post it here.

Cheers.

https://www.rhino3d.com/download/rhino/4.0/sr/changes SR9 is the latest update for the program before it got discontinued. The update is 12 years old (!), so don’t expect it to work flawlessly on a new operating system.

Good luck though!

@Rod_Smith just out of curiosity, I installed Rhino 4 to see. It runs, but I do have to disable hardware acceleration in OpenGL settings. Apart from that it runs fine (on windows 11). With hardware acceleration on, display refresh doesn’t work properly. As pointed out, this software is already 12 years old, so don’t expect wonders when it comes to driver support.

Hi Gijs

Thank you.
Hardware acceleration unticked and all works well again.
I am looking into upgrading sometime anyway. Can only flog an old horse so long…
