Hi, is there a way to unfold a solid part in Rhino without exploding it? Maybe with bend deduction?
Hi @Harold1
That depends very much on the part. In theory yes, you can use tools like Bend
, Flow
and CageEdit
to unfold, but the result can sometimes be either very complex or downright faulty; unless you are talking about something simple like box. Sometimes (most times) it’s way easier to just extract the outer or inner faces and use Unfold
. But post your geometry/screenshots, so that you might get some actual help instead of just guesses.

I used to use SolidWorks, which had a way of flattening a part using bend deduction and the K-Factor. I can use the Bend and Flow tools in Rhino, but I was wondering if I’ve been missing an easier method like the one in SolidWorks.
Ah, so it’s sheet metal. No built in solution, no. There’s a plugin to try out - I’ve no experience with it, so no idea if it’s worth the money.

Thanks for the help.
You would model your mid-surface, not a solid, and use UnrollSrf. No it’s not going to have k-factors.
