Unable to continue project perspective view BLACK

Hi,
V5

hit the delete option for background image and perspective view is black.
reboot rhino still black, unable to continue work.
a new file is ok, but my project has no perspective view functional.
thus cannot work,
whats wrong ?

I was trying perspectiveMatch which didnt work.
so to return to normal and carry on, I ran background command and chose delete option to remove the photo.
and all went black.

HELP !
dead in water at the mo.

Steve

select all- copy paste into a new blank file- any luck?

The void :o

Did you try _4view (twice maybe)?

_Zoom _Extents ?

Hi Jeremy,
_4view once , still top right black.
_4view again, BINGO !

OMG another pint I owe you !

what the F why did that happen though,
steering clear of that command, yet sounded useful.

what is way to get rid of the background image and return to wher I was at ?
undo had nothing as if it wasnt anything to undo.

Steve

If you have a Wallpaper image in your viewport, just go to its properties and delete all the FileName entry:

The PerspectiveMatch command works, but not perfectly because (a) getting the point matching right is nigh on impossible and (b) camera images are usually distorted, not true drawing office perspective.

Here’s an example of a camera model matched to a photo of a similar but not quite identical camera. The bellows are extended by different amounts so I was careful not to pick any of my matching points on bellow or lens carriage, but there were plenty of good corner points elsewhere to use. Note that you need at least six pairs: any less and nothing happens.

As you can see, even with easily identifiable matching points the scale and positioning of the camera body are slightly off. The orientation is good though.

The display mode, incidentally, is a modified copy of Monochrome because most modes obscure the wallpaper too much to be useful.

This is all in R8 because I don’t have any suitable illustrations in R5. I don’t think PerspectiveMatch has changed since then though.

Hi,
Its almost as if the model must be correct beforehand, in which case there is no advantage in using PerspectiveMatch to make the model !
I knew the edges of the chassis were correct and also the pole out from it, the second pole I had was correct in being parallel and perhaps diameter but location was guessed.
matching edges of the pole (perp to chassis) and chassis would have been enough to enable me to draw the third pole and its end plates.

Its that needing to match what is accurate to the photo, to enable further items to be created to match.

Its the need of match an edge line, not just match a point. poles dont have points neither do C section chassis members !

a building has edges, and choosing the X Y and Z edges should enable a match to a photo. but having to pick the corners of the building when one is trying to draaw the buildings width depth and height to match a photo. thats the impass of the command.

also the inability to zoom in to place a point, one can be out by an amount to cause command failure.

needs a revision of the command. and better exiting back to normality.

SketchUp and others have match photo with edges as well as points.

How do I get this fact to McNeel ?

( a bellows camera to the modern generation must be like them discovering an iron age axe !)

It’s on the list.
